The Able Trust Names Susanne Homant, MBA, DPA, as New President & CEO

(February 1, 2008)

The Able Trust has recently named Susanne Homant, MBA, DPA, as President and CEO. Dr. Homant is responsible for the operations of The Able Trust, a statewide nonprofit foundation that provides employment opportunities to Floridians with disabilities through grant funding, employer outreach and youth-related programs. Dr. Homant, who has worked with Florida’s disability community for several years, came to The Able Trust from the National Alliance on Mental Illness/Florida Chapter where she served as Executive Director. Prior to that she was the Executive Director for Florida Hospices and Palliative Care.

Dr. Homant is extremely proud of her new role as President and CEO of The Able Trust. She believes the work The Able Trust is doing in advancing employment opportunities for people with disabilities is “a critical function of their lives – giving people with disabilities meaning and purpose while contributing to their self worth and satisfaction.”

Dr. Homant’s background includes service on the Florida Supreme Court Committee on Families and Children in the Court; as a board member of the Florida Partners in Crisis and the Florida Supportive Housing Coalition and as Vice-Chair of the State Mental Health Planning Council of Florida. She is also an officer on the Board of the Florida Pain Initiative.

Dr. Homant relocated to Florida from Michigan, where she was the Executive Director of the Michigan Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. While in Michigan, one of Dr. Homant’s public accomplishments included working extensively with the Office of the Governor to help defeat Michigan’s assisted suicide proposal.

Dr. Homant has presented extensively to state and national groups, has completed several research projects and is published. She earned an MBA from Northern Michigan University, and a Doctorate in Public Administration from Western Michigan University.
